Under Construction: Updating Format and Content

What is the C-Foundation?

Our Goal:

The goal of this foundation is the enhancement of understanding of information through educational gaming, in virtue of activating more and more citizens to partake in a more effective and active role with regard to democratic policymaking over changes in complex industry systems such as energy and agriculture.

To this end, our foundation shall develop databases, models, and channels of communication

  1. to turn widely accepted data about complex subjects in open archives, libraries, and databases into comprehensible and verified information.
  2. to make the dynamic relations within this information visible, and
  3. to provide all this in an attractive fashion to all citizens through games and other (new) media.

Our Future:

In five years, citizens will, thanks to educational gaming, be able to be more involved in democratic decision-making and have more faith in the political system because they can better understand the underlying industry systems, recognize ‘influencers’, distinguish between qualified and unqualified policymakers as well as information from misinformation.

Policymakers will become more qualified because they can better understand the complex systems that they have to make decisions about thanks to our interactive simulation (gaming). As a result, technology can finally optimally support the democracy.

In ten years, all important complex industry systems will be accessible through our tools in 10 percent of all countries. These so-called digital twins shall be interconnected.

Our vision is ambitious. Our foundation finds itself on an ever-changing path, where the end will never be visible. We start and develop projects that through innovative initiatives will contribute to the development of a sustainable, involved, and inclusive society. These are activities with a broad societal impact that attempt to tackle problems at their core. The foundation aims to integrate technology optimally into democratic decision-making and to seed plants for generations to come.

Our 2023 plan for 2024

Activities:

Our activities can be categorized in the following ways:

Laying our foundation

We will develop a transparent database where the characteristics of all components that we use (for instance in energy: primary energy, powerplants, energy efficiency, infrastructure, energy consumers, energy sources, and input) can be improved by everyone, in a ‘Wikipediaesque’ fashion. Additionally, we will create a professional management system that aims to become a reliable, well-function ANBI foundation, where donations and other sources of income lead to results.

Making dynamic relationships visible in industrial systems:

We will enhance our transparent model of the energy-industry system. Additionally, we will start the process of creating a model of the agricultural-industry system. Later, other industry systems will be modeled such as the steel and cement, and the chemical industry. These models are fundamental to understanding the dynamic interconnectivity between the different components in our database.

Activating channels to enlarge political engagement of citizens.

We aim to awaken everyone’s interest in complex industry systems through the development of both online and offline gaming activities. Through activity on old and new media, such as TV-gameshows, podcasts, blogs, vlogs, and forms of social media we will make our games more known. Addressing a broad audience, but especially the current generation that will experience the energy transition themselves has priority.

Our income:

In 2023 and 2024, the Foundation will raise funds through donations from companies and other foundations. It will also seek national and European subsidies. Board members, stakeholders, and companies associated with stakeholders may provide loans to bridge the initial phase. After the initial phase, potential commercial activities may be undertaken.

The Foundation does not maintain a detailed budget for its income. This is because donations (from other foundations, commercial companies, the public, bequests, and legacies) are contributed voluntarily and are not predictable. Periodic fundraising will be a significant activity, particularly during the Foundation’s initial years.

Our managing of funds:

The available capital of the Foundation will consist of the General Reserve. Essentially, all funds (reserves and designated funds) of the Foundation will be held solely as liquid assets in a savings account. Any future acquisitions in securities will be sold immediately if possible. The aim is to build capital to cover the minimum operational activities over 3 years and thereby ensure the Foundation’s continuity.

Our spending of funds:

All funds spent will lead back to our activities as described in our business plan. For 2023, assuming we can raise sufficient funds, our expected spending in euros is as follows:

  • start-up costs (7k),
  • preparations for television marketing by the production company (50k),
  • development and maintenance of model and game by Quo Mare and a yet-to-be-determined game developer (50k),
  • coordination of various activities by an external project manager (20k),

amounting to a total expected spending of 127k in 2023.
